Road to Freedom

Claymore Driver Tarining guarantee's a door to door service and that all tuition is given on a one to one basis.

You will not share your lesson with anyone else.

Listed below are the requirements and stages to earning your driving license

Provisional License

In order to undertake training in a car you must first have your provisional driving license, which can be applied for by going to the Post Office and completing a D1 form, once you have obtained this you must sign it immediately to validate it.

Eyesight Test

You must be able to read a vehicle number plate with letters 79.4mm(3.1inches) high at a minimum distance of 20.5metres (about 67 feet). If you need glasses or contact lenses to read the number plate you must wear them during the test and whenever you drive.

Theory Test - This comprises of two parts

Part One - Theory

This comprises of 50 multi-choice questions of which a minimum of 43 must be correct. Make sure you have all the necessary documents with you. You’ll need both the signed driving license and photo identitication eg. Passport, student ID, or both parts of your signed photocard licence. The time allocated for this part is 57 minutes.

Part Two - Hazard Perception

After a break you will be shown a short tutorial video clip on how this part of the test works. There are 14 clips each lasting approx. 1 minute. Each clip will have one developing hazard but one clip will feature two, the sooner you click on the developing hazard, the higher the score. A maximum of 5 is awarded, and this decreases with the time elapsed for each hazard. A pass of at least 44 out of 75 is required.

Format of Tuition

Each of your lessons are structured and prepared for your individual requirements. The structuring of each lesson takes the form of a lesson plan which sets out the objectives that will be obtainable with the work & effort put in by the pupil. The lesson plan will consist of:

  • Objectives set
  • Objectives obtained
  • Debriefing at the end of lesson
  • Recap on main point of lesson
  • Set the scene for the next lesson

This will give you the framework to develop your driving skills at an accelerated pace.

Partly trained drivers will be assessed on their driving by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and giving feedback on where learning and improvement have taken place. Claymore Driver Training uses the Core Competencies System, which is fault identification, fault analysis & giving remedial advice on where to improve.

Nervous Pupils

Some pupils feel nervous and anxious when learning something new for the first time. I believe the best way to overcome this is to play to the pupils existing strengths. These can be skills or achievements outside of driving from their everyday life. If I can build a pupils self confidence and belief in their own capabilities this reflects on their learning resulting in a more relaxed and fun environment.

Mock Test

The mock test is an essential part of your training and an important excerise in the learning process. The mock test is designed to mirror the driving test and gives you an insight as to the procedure and feeling of the big day. Many people feel nervous on their test and so the opportunity to experience the situation beforehand is an effective way of reducing test day nerves.

Actual Test

You will need to demonstrate that you can drive safely, complete the set exercises and demonstrate through your driving, that you have a thorough knowledge of The Highway Code. You will need to bring your theory test pass certificate, appointment card, the signed driving license and photo identity eg Passport, student ID, or both parts of your signed photocard licence.

After passing you will be allowed to drive without “L” plates, unsupervised and on motorways. It takes a lot of practice to become a skilled driver. Pass Plus is highly recommended and is available from Claymore Driver Training.
